Now only available as a five door hatchback, the Nissan Micra is surprisingly spacious and easy to drive. The Micra has been around for 30 years and has a dedicated following of fans, but several versions of this car over the years have seen it improve making it the sleeker, smoother driver that it is today.
The best part is you can secure a new Nissan Micra with a £500 deposit and we’ll pay towards your first year’s insurance. You can use this to buy insurance from a provider of your choice (of course, we’d love it if you chose our black box insurance, but we don’t tie you in!)
Light steering, great visibility and with ultra-responsive handling make the Micra an easy car to drive. It’s primarily a city car that loves nothing better than quick trips into town. The tight turning circle means that it’s easy to navigate narrow streets and parking is a piece of cake. This cheeky little motor can cope out on the open road, but is not the smoothest ride for long distance driving.
The Nissan Micra is one of the cheaper superminis to buy plus the running costs are low. The standard 1.2 litre petrol engine will give a decent fuel economy of 56.5mpg and 115g/km of CO2 emissions.
The insurance costs won’t hit your wallet too hard with all models sitting between groups five and nine.
The mid-range models come with 15 inch alloy wheels, chrome finishes, body coloured door handles and mirrors, plus more safety features. The higher models benefit from NissanConnect touchscreen navigation and entertainment system as standard plus DAB digital radio, Bluetooth connectivity and an upgraded six-speaker stereo so it’s a must if you love your music.
The NissanConnect is a clever bit of tech which means you can Google your route on your phone and send it to your car where it’s displayed on the touchscreen, so no more excuses
All models on the Micra get six airbags, anti-lock brakes, and electronic stability control as standard. Awarded four stars for safety by Euro NCAP, the Micra lost out on its fifth gold star for not being able to opt for the Safety Shield safety system kit which is available on Nissan’s Note and Qashqai.
The Nissan Micra is roomy and as it’s now only available in the five door model, you’ll have no problem getting your mates into the back. There’s a decent amount of headroom for taller friends, but you’d probably not want more than two in the rear for longer trips, even though there are three rear fitting seatbelts. The boot has a 265 litre capacity so you’ll have no problem managing your shopping, luggage, sports kit or festival gear in here.
There’s plenty of handy storage compartments to stash your bits and pieces inside the Micra too, including an exceptionally large glovebox, decent sized door bins and a couple of cup-holders.
